A luncheon meeting will not be held in December. We will reconvene on January 20th.  Happy Holidays!

Luncheon Information

  • Monthly Luncheons are open to the public
  • Cost is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers
  • The meeting fee includes speaker,  lunch and beverage
  • Cattlemens Restaurant, 12409 Folsom Blvd., Rancho Cordova, CA

The restaurant is located just east of Hazel Ave. at the northeast end of the Nimbus Winery complex along Highway 50. Cattlemens offers CWC a spacious meeting room with free WiFi, quality AV equipment, free off street parking and excellent food.

“There lurks, perhaps, in every human heart,” wrote Samuel Johnson, “a desire of distinction, which inclines every man to hope, and then to believe, that nature has given himself something peculiar to himself.”

What better distinction on display than in a book? Maryellen Burns will guide a conversation on how to write, edit, design, publish, and market a book in 12 months, and why it is important to every writer, regardless of genre. She is the author or editor of multiple books through traditional publishers and her own Indie press including Lost Restaurants of Sacramento and Their Recipes; Extracts – Mostly True Stories; and Whip Up a Cookbook. She has been a ghost writer, set up author tours and west coast promotions for Ten Speed Press, Simon and Schuster, Chronicle and Prima Publishing. She also teaches and produces books with the I Street Press and more recently facilitated a series for Indie Writers and Publishers for the Renaissance Society at CSUS and Morning Coffee Press in Midtown.

The California Writers Club–Sacramento Branch Networking Meeting is held the first Friday of every month at Coco’s Restaurant, 7887 Madison Avenue, Citrus Heights, at the corner of Madison and Sunrise,  starting at 9 a.m. Meetings are free. Attendees pay for their own breakfast.

Kimberly Edwards

 

Kimberly A. Edwards (Kimberlyedwards00@comcast.net), branch president since 2016, has championed  writers and writing processes for 35 years. In the 1980’s she founded and published a 12-page monthly writers newsletter that gained mention in Publishers Weekly. Her article credits include Writer’s Digest, International Travel News, The Times of India, The Sacramento Bee,  Cosmpolitan, Seventeen, ASJA (American Society of Journalists and Authors) Magazine, Independent (Independent Book Publishers Association), Sacramento News and Review, Senior Spectrum, Food Wine and Travel Magazine, and California Literature Review. Kim also writes literary nonfiction, illuminating life’s ironies and paradoxes. As facilitator of the Renaissance Society Memories and Memoir Seminar, she helps attendees turn memories into enduring stories. She has studied at both Kenyon Review Writer’s Workshop (Literary Nonfiction) and Squaw Valley of Writers (Fiction). With an M.A. in Education, she worked at the California State Department of Education, where she coordinated programs such as California Teachers of the Year, Milken Educator Awards, Blue Ribbon Schools, GED, and the Achieving Schools Conference. She is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and other organizations. Ted Witt

 

Ted Witt is the publisher behind Pretty Road Press, an independent publishing company in Folsom, California, where he specializes in content syndication and trade books. He is the current vice president of CWC’s Sacramento Writers, where he emphasizes that marketing skills are as important for today’s authors as writing skills. He is a former newspaper reporter from San Diego County and California’s Central Coast. He later transitioned to public relations and lobbying in the education arena in Sacramento before taking jobs as the executive director of the California Association of School Business Officials and then as the vice president of a private Bay Area firm specializing in software and consulting for schools. He is the author of the business book, No One Ever Told Me That. His bylines top scores of newspaper, magazine, and website articles.
