The Sacramento Branch of the California Writers Club will once again be holding a book festival in Sacramento, at the Shepard Garden Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816, next to McKinley Park.

Saturday, May 31, 2025, 10am to 4pm.

For the second year running, Sacramento will have its very own book festival. The California Writers Club is excited to continue this important literary event in Sacramento. We intend to develop this into an annual Sacramento Capital Experience.

Our local Sacramento-area authors are the heart of this festival. The Sacramento Book Festival is a great way meet them, find out all about their work, and grab some signed copies. We’ll have everything from rockets to romance, from cookbooks to children’s stories. Non-fiction to inspire your working lives.

Remember, if you are touched by an author’s writing, send feedback to them online. Visit their website and send them an email. Authors are not just paperback writers; they are people who love to interact with their audience.

We’ll also have a series of workshops for aspiring writers, wo will also be able to meet members of the California Writers Club for gain guidance on how to develop their art. We will also have author readings, where you can listen to their stories and poetry.

If you want to apply for a table, please follow the instructions here. The venue is indoors so you will not need an awning. Tables and chairs will also be provided by the venue.

We are looking to have food trucks outside, if you wish to bring your own picnic, there is plenty of outdoor space in the surrounding park.

We are reserving space in the venue where we propose to host speakers and mini workshops. We will post the full schedule here when it is finalized. We are proud to have James Rollins as our keynote speaker.

SACRAMENTO BOOK FESTIVAL

Sacramento has not experienced a book festival in many years. We are excited to restart such an important event in Sacramento. We intend to develop this into an annual Sacramento Capital Experience.

In association with McKinley Farmers Market in Sacramento, we have arranged for 10 booths for authors to promote and sell their books. Booking details are available on our website.

Sharing a booth with another author is not essential, but it does help spread the cost and encourages collaboration. Customers are always excited to be greeted with authors.

ROSEVILLE DOWNTOWN TUESDAY NIGHT MARKET

CWC has reserved one 10’x10’ space at the Roseville Downtown Tuesday Night Market, on nine consecutive Tuesday nights (from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.) from June 4 to July 30, 2024. The market is held on Vernon Street, adjacent to the Vernon Street Town Square, in Roseville. The Tuesday night markets have been hugely successful in the past, typically bringing in thousands of people every Tuesday night during the summer.

CWC Sacramento Branch members have priority to participate. The application is on the CWC website. The cost is $60 per night. We recommend you share a booth with an author friend or colleague; if you share a booth, the cost is only $30 per author. To ensure your space, please complete an application and mail a check as soon as possible. CWC Sacramento Branch members’ priority lasts until May 15, 2024.

Authors should have a California seller’s permit and are responsible for bringing their own table and chair. As it can be hot in the summer months, we also strongly recommend that you bring a 10’x10’ pop-up tent.

As many people did, I spent a lot of time reading every entry. Every prose entry blew me away. I can’t pretend to understand poetry, but many entries sent me to places I would never expect to go to.

Members of CWC Sacramento have submitted many items for inclusion in the 2024 Literary Review. This anthology will be published by the CWC Central Board. Sacramento is allowed to submit 4 prose and 4 poetry entries. It is up to us to decide what to submit to the central board.

Please note that you will be voting blind, as the author names have been removed.

How to Vote

Voting is now open! The deadline for voting is Saturday, February 24th. You can vote for 4 prose and 4 poems. We ask that you list them in order of your preference, #1, #2, #3, #4. Please send your selections via email to sacramentowriters@gmail.com .

During the award ceremony in Oakland, on October 22, 2023, Gloria received the Jack London award for exceptional service to the Sacramento branch of CWC.

The CWC central board holds an award ceremony annually to present both the Ina Coolbrith award and the Jack London award.

The Ina Coolbrith award is named after Ina Coolbrith, who was a poet, writer, and librarian. Importantly, she was a mentor for Jack London. This award is given to CWC members for exceptional service the California Writers Club.

The Jack London award, is given to a member of a branch for exceptional service to that branch.
